Welcome to the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Children’s Wing!

This wing of the Pittston Memorial Library officially opened in August of 2015, and it is full of fun for your young ones. You’ll find loads of books from picture books and nonfiction books to juvenile chapter books, DVDs, two computers with games just for kids, a fire station and doll house, Carrie Flower books and dolls, a train table, a building block station, puzzles, games, a “cave” with comfy chairs, along with other fun things to do.

We also have a colorful activity room where lots of learning and fun takes place. We do ask that an adult is present with anyone ages 12 and younger in this wing.

Some of the programming for children include story time for the little ones (infants through 5 years), 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, Hands On! Craft Club for ages 5 to 12, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Club for ages 5 to 12, Page Turners Junior Book Club for 4th and 5th grade students, Brick Builders Club where you can build with Lincoln Logs, Legos, or K’Nex (ages 3 to 12), and the Furry Tails READ Program with therapy dogs who come to the library once a month.

Every summer, we offer an exciting six-week Summer Reading Program to encourage your young ones to keep reading!

We also offer preschool visits that includes a tour of the library, story time, and craft. It’s a great place for Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts to visit too.

For School Aged Children

“Chicka Chicka Chapter Books” (Weekly story time for kids grades K-3rd), Mondays, 5:30-6:30 PM

Chicka Chicka Chapter Books is a brand new program designed to carry the fun and learning of our younger age story time into the early elementary years. Each week Ms. Katie will read a section of a chapter book aloud (using memory, reading comprehension, imagination, and learning prompts by Ms. Katie throughout the reading to encourage engagement!) and then she and all the kids create art projects based on things we learned about in the book that day! Each week, after the Wednesday meeting, Ms. Katie will post a video of herself reading the chapters from that week so that any families who cannot be physically present can still keep up with the story!

Super STEAM! (First and Second Thursdays), 4-5 PM

This is a monthly club broken by age group designed to keep kids engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics outside of the classroom. Through monthly changing themes and activities, we get to experience the fun of STEAM at all ages and to foster curiosity for all the ways in which STEAM is incorporated into our lives.

Homework Hangout (Weekly for all grade levels) Mondays, 3-4 PM

Come to the library for some assistance with your daily work or even just find a new, quiet place to do your homework! We’ll always do our best to help!
