Kids

Welcome to the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Children’s Wing!

This wing of the Pittston Memorial Library officially opened in August of 2015, and it is full of fun for your young ones. You’ll find loads of books that are great for all ages: from picture books and nonfiction books to juvenile chapter books, board books, graphic novels, beginning reader books, an Accelerated Reader display, two computers with games just for kids, a fire station and doll house, a coloring table, comfy chairs and areas perfect for reading and being read to, puzzles, blocks and lots of space to play and build, as well as many other fun things to do.
We do ask that an adult is present with anyone ages 12 and younger in this wing.

Programming for Ages 0-5 (Littles not in school yet)

We offer a variety of fantastic programming for all of your littles!

Toddler Time (ages 0-3), Weekly, Tuesdays, 10:00-10:30 AM: This program is a story time specifically geared towards children who are under Preschool ages. We focus on basic skills like numbers and counting, colors, shapes, emotions, etc; as well as songs, movement and repetitive poems and finger-plays. Each week we read an interactive book together and sing songs based on a theme. This program is very interactive and tons of fun! (Siblings who might be in a different age range are welcome to participate in this program so that families may attend together!)

Preschool Pals (ages 3-5), Weekly, Tuesdays, 10:45-11:45 AM: This program is a story time specifically geared towards children who are in the Preschool age range, but are below the age forP Kindergarten. This program still has lots of fun, movement, repetitive songs and skills practice like Toddler Time, but we bump up the skill knowledge to that Preschool level. We add in lots of new skills, songs, poems, stories and activities to build on the skills learned at an earlier age. We typically read two books together based around a specific theme, and enjoy songs and activities in that theme too. We have tons of fun playing and learning together and every story time wraps up with an awesome themed craft! (Siblings who might be in a different age range are welcome to participate in this program so that families may attend together!)

Tales and Tunes (ages 0-5), Weekly, Wednesdays, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM: This program is a fun-filled, activity-based program with weekly themes and skills introduced. Children are introduced to a new theme (such as a new color, or shape) and encouraged to explore that theme through songs, dancing, play and stories! (Siblings who might be in a different age range are welcome to participate in this program so that families may attend together!)

For our kids under Kindergarten age, we are proud to support families with the program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This is a nationwide program that can be done through an app on your phone or with pen and paper. This is a family-independent program, in which any and every book you read with your child before Kindergarten gets recorded with the goal of reaching 1,000 before your child enters school. We offer prizes and resources to help you and your family reach this goal! Inquire with our Children’s Coordinator, Ms. Katie, about how to get started!
